The Regional Conference on Open Government Partnership started its activities in Bali
The Open Government Partnership (OGP) Asia Pacific Regional Conference on “Unlocking Innovative Openness: Impetus to Greater Citizen Engagement” was held in Bali city of Indonesia on May 6-7. The representatives from more than 200 states from 43 countries of the world, private sector and civil society have taken part in the conference. Azerbaijan was represented in this event by the chair of the Organization for Protection of the Rights of Oil workers Mirvari Gahramanli and the member of the Management Board of the Economic Research Center Gubad Ibadoglu.
The president of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono delivering an introductory speech in the conference talked about the achievements and difficulties that his country encountered during fulfillment of obligations undertaken in the field of Open Government Partnership. Then the chairmen on behalf of the by the government and civil society of the Open Government Partnership talked about the wide possibilities created by this initiative for the governments and stated that the number of the countries that joined to the initiative reached to 64, and the number of the NGOs exceeded 200. The representatives of Indonesia, New Zealand, Mongolia and other countries taking part in the conference shared their experiences on public data base, transparency and accountability forms created by the innovative changes.
The chair of the Organization for Protection of the Rights of Oil workers Mirvari Gahramanli and the member of the Management Board of the Economic Research Center Gubad Ibadoglu taking part in the discussions held by the initiative of the local civil society prior to the conference talked about non useful activity environment, the restrictions imposed on them and available administrative barriers for participation of the citizens. Besides, the representatives of the civil society taking part in the conference have organized the exhibition reflecting the activities and the products of the NGOs they represented. The Economic Research Center has also made presentation in the exhibition. The member of the Economic Research Center delivering speech in the event Gubad Ibadoglu has presented the results of the initial evaluation conducted by the experts of Economic Research Center connected with the execution of the National Activity Plan on promotion of open government partnership for 2012 – 2015 implemented in Azerbaijan along with providing information on the works done by the government in the field of increase of transparency and accountability.
This week the conferences on Open Government Partnership are held in two regions of the world. The regional conference of Asia Pacific ocean basin will be finalized on May 7. After that the delegation of Azerbaijan will go to Ireland to take part in the Regional Conference of Open Government Partnership for Europe to be held in Dublin on May 8-9.
