Trainings conducted in Shaki, Gabala and Oguz
Economic Research Center ( ERC) conducted training on “ Soil degradation, erosion, salination and other preventives measures” in Shaki, Gabala and Oguz for farmers, and representatives of local self-governance bodies. The training was funded by OSCE Baku Office within the framework of “Public advocacy and raising awareness among land users on protection of soil fertility”.
The trainings were conducted in Shaki, Gabala and Oguz on March 12-13-14 respectively and during the trainings the current status of land and feedbacks were received from attendees.
GalibTogrul, the project coordinator delivered opening remarks and informed participants about the situation concerning soil worldwide, including objectives and beneficiaries of the project. He stated: “ The lands in the world subjected to degradation accounts 41 % of total dry land in the world. There are about 2 billion individuals living in these areas. The interesting fact is that 90 % of these lands pertain to developing countries.”
The coordinator also talked about the Convention on combat against desertification on June 17, 1994 by General Assembly of the United Nations. Currently, June 17 is being celebrated as an international Day combating against desertification.
Afterwards, the expert of ERC VahidMaharramov delivered in-depth training on protection of soil fertility and revealed statistical research conducted in the field of livestock and plant-growing in the above mentioned regions. Furthermore, the trainings were wrapped up with interactive discussions dedicated to root causes of land degradation and preventive measures.
VahidMahharamov also briefed training participants about proper usage from agro-technical rules and procedures, including classification of factors influencing to productivity.
At the end of the trainings, video films depicting progressive technical advancements utilized in plant-growing were demonstrated.
