The projects implemented in Balakan and Oguz regions are finalized
Zagatala and Gakh regions are on the next list
The meetings with local NGOs, community members and resource group members was arranged within the framework of “Intra-community cooperation and dialogue for community development” project implemented “British Council” with financial support of British Council in Hanifa municipality of Balakan region on June 25 and Oguz city municipality on June 26. The aim of these meetings is to assess the activities implemented in both regions within the frames of the project.
Survey was conducted among citizens of Hanifa municipalities based on Citizen Report Card methodology and priority problems were identified. It was decided to reconstruct 2 km road from high way till municipality premise. Afterwards, the discussions dedicated to resolution of municipality members and community members within initiation of British Council. Finally, the road was repaired thank to efforts of both sides. During the last trip the reconstructed road was visited, speeding up the opportunities on cooperation between municipality-community-NGO, increasing public participation in the activities of municipality and advancing accountability and transparency.
Another activity within the framework of the project was to establish Oguz Youth Center under Resource Center in order effectively manage the free time of youths with support of Oguz City Municipality and local municipality as well. A library was created under Youth Center and and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism provided the library with new diverse publications. The Center was also provided with computers and internet.
It is planned to implement the similar projects in Zagatala and Gakh regions on the second part of the year. For this purpose, meetings were arranged with chairman of Mosul municipality from Zagatalar egion, Ibrahim Ibrahimov and the chairman of Tasmali municipality from Gakh region, Aydin Sardarov. These debates were attended by representatives of NGOs and youths as well.
It should be noted that needs assessment was initially conducted in Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh and Oguz regions within the framework of the project and later trainings were conducted in order to increase the knowledge and capacities of municipality members, employees and representatives of local NGOs.
