Gubad Ibadoglu was elected coordinator for “For Improving Transparency in Extractive Industries” Coalition
December 27, 2013 – The first meeting of the Coalition of Azerbaijan Non-Governmental Organizations “For Improving Transparency in Extractive Industries” with a new team was organized. In accordance to the Statue of “For Improving Transparency in Extractive Industries” Coalition an election was held to select coordinator position of the Council. At the election that was attended by majority of members GubadIbadoglu had been unanimously elected as a coordinator of the Council. Moreover, the discussions were hell over memorandum of understanding on implementation of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative in the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as an updated version of work plan of the Multilateral Group for 2014 was debated as well.
During the discussion of Memorandum the main focus was given to theissues that have triggered disagreements and misunderstanding between local and foreign companies operating under Commission on EITI and in the production industry. It was decided to carry on the discussion related to disagreements in this direction with participation of the parties under Multilateral Group format and to defend the position of Coalition by its representatives.
Furthermore, the Council members adopted statements in regard to the latest amendments made by Parliament to the legislation regulating activities of NGOs and the report on “Azerbaijan Anonymous” disclosed by “ Global Witness” about the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic. It was approved to organize the discussions in 15th of January with participation of governmental agencies, extractive industry companies, local and international organizations that are parties to this Memorandum.
